The Management of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) has sent announcement to the general public on their plans to carry out a mass burial of bodies currently kept at its mortuary that have not been identified and claimed by family members for some time now.
In a press release dated December 23, the hospital explained that its mortuary is overcrowded and has reached full capacity. As a result, management intends to bury all unclaimed, unknown, and unidentified bodies to ease the congestion.
KBTH has therefore appealed to relatives, next of kin, or anyone with an interest in any of the bodies to contact the hospital within 21 days of the notice, on or before January 18, 2026, to make the necessary arrangements.
According to the hospital’s records, about 320 unclaimed bodies are expected to be included in the mass burial. Management stated that any bodies remaining unclaimed after the deadline will be buried in line with approved procedures and relevant regulations.
The mass burial exercise will be conducted in collaboration with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA). Management has appealed to the public for understanding and cooperation.
