Actress-turned-presenter Nana Ama McBrown has opened up about her absence from Nollywood films, citing a strong bias towards her home country of Ghana. In a recent episode of her show, Onua Showtime, McBrown revealed that her preference for Ghanaian content over Nigerian is a key factor in her decision.
McBrown explained that her loyalty to Ghana extends to all aspects of her career, including her music and film choices. “I always choose Ghana over any other country,” she stated. “I feel that if I were to engage more with Nigerian entertainment, I would be betraying Ghanaian artists and my own values.”
She further elaborated on her stance by recounting an incident during a recent ‘Big Brother Naija’ episode. While enjoying a meal, McBrown heard a DJ play a song by Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie. She was compelled to stand up and dance, only for the DJ to cut the song short. This experience, she explained, reinforced her feelings of disconnection from Nigerian media and her commitment to supporting Ghanaian talent.
McBrown’s comments highlight her dedication to Ghanaian culture and artists, showcasing her desire to maintain a strong cultural identity despite the influence of neighboring Nollywood.
Your point of view caught my eye and was very interesting. Thanks. I have a question for you.
