Evangelist Nana Yaw Akosah, popularly known as Papa Shee, has explained why some close family members and well-known people were not present at the funeral of highlife legend Daddy Lumba on December 13, 2025.
Speaking on Adom TV’s morning show, Papa Shee said Daddy Lumba’s first wife, Akosua Serwaa, was in Germany at the time of the funeral. According to him, she did not travel to Ghana with her children because she was not officially informed or invited to the funeral.
Papa Shee said Akosua Serwaa only heard about the funeral date through rumours. Because of the ongoing court issues between her and the family, she decided to leave the matter in God’s hands.
He also claimed that some traditional leaders in the Ashanti Region, including the Nsutahene, Parkosohene and Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, were not invited by the head of Daddy Lumba’s family. He added that some family members living abroad could not attend because they had asked for the funeral to be postponed so everyone could be present.
Papa Shee further explained that he himself did not attend the funeral out of respect for some elders who had pulled out of the arrangements. Instead, he stayed at home to pray and worship.
Daddy Lumba died at the Bank Hospital in Cantonments on July 26, 2025, at the age of 60. His funeral was attended by several prominent Ghanaians, including Nana Acheampong, Dr Osei Kwame Despite, Dr Ernest Ofori Sarpong, Kennedy Agyapong (Kenpong), Johnson Asiedu Nketia and Dr Frank Amoakohene.
Some family members who attended included his children, his younger sister Faustina Fosu, the Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu and his second wife, Odo Broni. However, Akosua Serwaa, Daddy Lumba’s elder sister Ernestina Fosu, Papa Shee and other close relatives involved in the court case were absent.
