It is obvious that University students globally, have the freedom to wearing any attire of their choice to the lecture hall – without strictly adhering to an accepted uniform for all. This has motivated many, including Law students in the Kumasi-based Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to wearing clothes outside the accepted codes of dressing of the faculty.
In a statement signed by the Dean of the KNUST faculty, Dr Ernest Owusu-Dapaa, revealed that the university has taken notice of the indecent dressing of some female students.
“It has come to the notice of management that some students do not observe the Dress Code of the Faculty. All students are required to dress in accordance with Faculty’s Dress Code,”
He added that,
“students are therefore cautioned to dress properly and desist from wearing miniskirts (above the knee level), sleeveless top, lace tops, and other dresses that will subject the image of the Law profession to disrepute.”
This statement goes a long way to advise students, especially female students, to be modest enough when attending lectures. Again, it also informs lecturers not to entertain such indecent dressings.
