Sighted by sixscribes.com, a young graduate from the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) has disclosed on his LinkedIn timeline that he emerged as the best student, the best performing student in broadcasting, the best graduating student in journalism and the valedictorian for the 2021 year group.
He gave thanks to God and recounted that he worked so hard for the glorious honours. “On God….we didn’t come here to play”, – he said.
The achievements of Theodore Abbiw, popularly known by all as Efo Korku Mawutor is a typical ‘Grass to GRACE’ story. In an interview with F5 Digital Media on YouTube, Efo revealed he started fending for himself and two of his younger siblings from the time he was in JHS 2.
“In the second term in JHS 2, my father lost his job so I had to assume responsibility to fend for myself and two younger siblings” – Efo Korku Mawuto.
He added he had worked as a labourer at construction sites, helped in ‘chop bars’ by pounding fufu for money and so on to get money to support his family.
Mr. Abbiw also added, “after JHS, I went on to work with an engineering company at Tema harbor… I was a labourer for the welder and we worked on ships”
Efo Korku Mawutor completed Pope Jone’s Senior High School in 2015 but had to wait until 2017 before enrolling into the Ghana Institute of Journalism. He stated in the interview he got admission for three consecutive years to enroll into some enviable universities in Ghana but had to stay home because of financial hindrance, and most importantly, work to see his younger sister through SHS.
The life of Efo Mawutor has not been rosy but his resilience has won him victory in all his endeavors. He is currently the CEO of EKMC Consultancy with 10 committed team members, a spoken word artist, an MC and public speaking coach.
