A tragic bus accident near Aggrey Memorial School in Cape Coast claimed three lives and left 23 others injured early Friday morning.
The bus, with registration number GW 6231-21, was traveling from Takoradi to Accra when it overturned at an intersection near the school. The incident occurred at approximately 6:48 a.m. on December 27, 2024. The vehicle, carrying about 53 passengers, fell on its side, trapping several individuals inside.
The Central Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Abdul Wasiu Hudu, said emergency services, including officers from the GNFS, police, and ambulance personnel, worked together to rescue the passengers.
“Most of the passengers were safely extracted and transported to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital and the University of Cape Coast Hospital for medical attention,” he stated.
Unfortunately, three passengers succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced dead at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.
Among the injured, 23 remain under medical care at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, while nine others received treatment and have since been discharged.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
