Real Madrid and Germany Midfielder Decides to Hang Up His Boots After Euro 2024

Real Madrid and Germany midfielder Toni Kroos has announced his retirement from football after the conclusion of this summer’s European Championship. The 34-year-old made the announcement via Instagram on Tuesday afternoon, marking the end of a decorated career spanning over a decade.

Kroos, who has been an integral part of both Real Madrid and the German national team, revealed that he will not renew his contract with Real Madrid, which expires at the end of the season. Reflecting on his time with the club, Kroos expressed gratitude to the fans and the club for their support throughout his tenure.

“After 10 years, at the end of the season this chapter comes to an end. I will never forget that insolent successful time! I would particularly like to thank everyone that welcomed me with an open heart and trusted me. But especially I would like to thank you, dear Madridistas, for your affection and your love from the first day until the last one,” Kroos wrote in his Instagram post.

The midfielder, who joined Real Madrid in 2014 from Bayern Munich, leaves behind a legacy of success, having won numerous titles with both clubs. Kroos clinched the Champions League, Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and other prestigious trophies during his time with Bayern Munich before adding to his collection with Real Madrid.

Kroos’s illustrious career also includes being part of the Germany squad that lifted the 2014 FIFA World Cup trophy. Despite announcing his international retirement in 2021, Kroos returned for Euro 2024, giving him the opportunity to end his career on home soil.

With Real Madrid set to face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final, Kroos has one last chance to add to his impressive list of accolades before bidding farewell to the sport he has graced for so many years.
