ACCRA, Ghana – The United States has extradited Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, the former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), back to Ghana.

Attionu was convicted in absentia on over 70 corruption-related charges, which included the embezzlement and misappropriation of public funds totaling more than $6 million equivalent in Ghanaian taxpayer money. Following her conviction, she had remained outside the country, evading justice until U.S. law enforcement intervened.

The U.S. Embassy in Ghana confirmed the successful extradition in a social media post on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, hailing the operation as a testament to the robust bilateral relations between the two nations.

“Justice has no borders,” the Embassy stated. “The United States has extradited Sedina Tamakloe Attionu to Ghana, following her conviction on 70+ corruption-related charges, including embezzling more than $6M equivalent in Ghanaian taxpayer funds. This is our strong U.S.-Ghana law enforcement partnership in action demonstrating a shared commitment to accountability, and the first extradition from the United States to Ghana since 2009.”

Shortly after the Embassy’s announcement, the Government of Ghana confirmed that the former MASLOC boss had landed on Ghanaian soil.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday, the Minister for Government Communications and Government Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, confirmed her arrival in Accra. He stated that state security agencies were fully prepared for her return.

According to the Minister, officials from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Prisons Service have already taken Attionu into custody. He added that authorities are currently making the necessary administrative and security arrangements for her to officially begin serving her custodial sentence.

The repatriation of Attionu is being widely viewed as a major victory for Ghana’s anti-corruption fight and a stern warning to public officials that national borders will not shield them from accountability.
