Shatta Wale was contracted as head artiste to perform at the Hogbetsotso festival in an entertainment event titled ‘Hogbe Beach Rave’ but failed to mount the stage despite fans anticipation.
Detailing the reasons why he failed to perform, the Ghanaian music artiste said despite the paltry amount agreed on, he accepted to attend the event because of his Godfather, Bola Ray. He added the organizers breached their contract by disrespecting him — dared to withhold his accommodation if he fails to do a radio tour before the performance.
“I hear sey one of the organizers say if I no go come the radio station, then them no go take me go my hotel room…” — he said in broken English.
“Massa, make I carry all my luggage come the radio station den come do radio interview? As yourself whether that’s how they treat foreign artistes. Do they take them to radio stations immediately they land at the airport? Even some international artistes come with their live bands, do they carry all that to the radio station? When Usher came to Ghana did he carry all his luggage and band to radio stations for interview? —he added.
Meanwhile, Organizers of the event reported that although Shatta Wale was in town, he failed to show up on stage. They did not state any reason.
“It is interesting to note that Shatta Wale had shown up at the venue of the concert in vehicles rented for him and his team by the organizers yet could not be found afterwards. All efforts by the two management teams to get him to come to the concert grounds to perform to the waiting crowd proved futile,” —portion of the organizer’s statement reads.
Earlier on Monday, November 7, 2022, host of Onua Maakye, Captain Smart counseled the Dancehall Artiste on Onua TV to be very careful with how he treats billed events. He further asked him to apologize to the people of Volta region for dragging their expectations into the mud.
“You must apologise to the people of the Volta Region. You sat here and said you’ve been paid. Why didn’t you come? This is a blunder. You’re my brother, and I’m not going to cast you because of this but you must apologise,” – Captain Smart said.
