Growing up, I saw leaders (political, religious and traditional) showing patriotism in their various field of jurisdictions.
The Politicians mount platforms to talk about his/her plans for a better Ghana and most of them walked the talk. Our Pastors and Imams preached same to their congregation. Our traditional rulers were highly respected and obeyed. Life at that stage was good, we had respect for the Ghanaian flag and anything Ghana
What changed?
The Youth of today perceive our traditional, religious and political leaders as selfish because leadership has failed the people of Ghana. The political powers have been used as a tool to humiliate , intimidate and shut up mouths who would have wrestled power with those at the helms of affairs for a better Ghana . Once you try to share your ideas on national issues you are touted as an enemy and part of the opposition parties.
This behavior by some of our leaders changed the patriotism fire in our youth and populace to become party people instead of Ghanaians. It is now obvious that to have a better life in Ghana, you need to be aligned with a political party. That was not the case some decades ago.
The fight against corruption, galamsey can never be won if our leaders (Political, Religious and Traditional) do not show up leadership and patriotism.
Some political and traditional hands are behind our galamsey menace making it an already lost battle.
The only way to make Ghana strong again is to have the patriotism fire back into the heads, hearts and minds of every Ghanaian.
Why would a Ghanaian youth destroy his/her own water body for money?
Why would the Ghanaian youth who comes from a “home” now attack traditional and religious leaders?
Why would the Ghanaian youth go any length to insult, malign and disrespect our political leaders?
Is there not a cause?
Our problem is leadership and patriotism.
This is my opinion, you might disagree, but in all, let us remember we are Ghanaians and whatever happens will not make us,citizens, of the countries we dream to travel to.

Simple and deep
You’ve said it all boss. Leadership is everything. Once the youth feels leadership has failed, patriotism is lost.
