The technical handler named his squad without prominent names like Kofi-Kyere, Ibrahim Danlad, Isahaku and Alidu Seidu who were integral players during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Chris Hughton’s first ever call up was without local players which has called for questions from lovers of the local league.
DANLAD
Asante Kotoko goalkeeper, Danlad Ibrahim, had a late call for the 2022 World Cup team to replace Jojo Wallacott when the Charlton Athletic keeper was declared injured for the Qatar tournament. Upon the full fitness of Wallacott, coach Chris had no other option than to call him and snub Danlad.
Wallacot proved himself worthy in the World Cup qualifiers, especially in the last encounter between the Black Stars of Ghana and Nigeria. His classic saves qualified Ghana to the 2022 World Cup ahead or rivals Nigeria.
BARNIEH
Since switching from Accra Hearts of Oak to the Swiss Super League club FC Zurich in January 2023, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh has not played a match for his new club which questions his fitness for the Black Stars.
KOFI-KYERE
The 26-year-old Daniel Kofi-Kyereh who plays in the German Bundesliga has suffered a ligament injury which has rendered him unavailable until the end of the 2022/2023 season. The Ghana team will miss his creativity in the midfield as well as his ability to create a perfect attacking crosses towards goals.
ALIDU SEIDU
Aggressive right-back Alidu Seidu is also one of the youngsters who have been left behind by Chris Hughton. The Clermont Foot’s defender got injured in their league 1 game against Lille. The player has since undergone surgery and is currently recovering. Hopefully, Denis Odoi and Tariq Lamptey will be available to play at the right side of defence against Angola.
ISAHAKU
Fatawu Isahaku was also left out. It is obvious that the coach called Joseph PAINTSIL who is currently in form, to replace the youngster. Paintsil has scored 11 goals and provided 9 assists in 24 matches this season which puts him far ahead of Fatawu Isahaku.
