A young Ghanaian man, identified as Marvin Baah Boadu, has tragically lost his life after being shot near an apartment complex in Toronto.
According to Edhub, the incident occurred around 8 PM on Monday in the Clearview Heights and Trethewey Drive area. Marvin, a student in his 20s who had moved to Canada to pursue further studies and employment opportunities, was shot multiple times. Despite life-saving efforts at the scene, he succumbed to his injuries after being transported to the hospital.
The violent act, which has shaken both local residents and the Ghanaian community, marks the 72nd homicide in Toronto this year. The surge in gun violence continues to raise concerns about public safety, with many questioning the deeper issues fueling such tragic incidents.
Marvin Baah Boadu’s death follows the fatal shooting of another Ghanaian national, Adu Boakye, earlier this year. Boakye, a 39-year-old father of four, was killed in February in what police described as a random act of violence. He was shot while waiting for a bus near Jane Street and Driftwood Avenue in North York. Like Boadu, despite quick medical attention, Boakye was pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital.
The homicides of both Marvin Baah Boadu and Adu Boakye have left the Ghanaian community in Toronto devastated and concerned for their safety. Community leaders have called for increased police presence and stronger safety measures to address the rising violence in the city. Many have also advocated for more resources to promote community engagement and create support systems to help residents feel safer in their neighborhoods.
The Toronto Police are actively investigating Marvin Baah Boadu’s death, but no suspects have been identified at this time. Community members and family are hoping for swift justice, while also grappling with the loss of yet another life to the city’s growing gun violence crisis.
