Luka Modric’s Croatia have booked their ticket to the semis of the World Cup in Qatar after beating Brazil 4:2 on penalties.
Both teams enjoyed the surface of the pitch but struggled to score a goal in the normal halves of the 90 minutes play. Neymar scored with the right foot at 105+1 minute to put Brazil ahead.
When it looked like hope was lost, Bruno Petkovic scored to give Croatia one life to leverage and stay in the competition until full 120 minutes when the referee whistled to end the game.
After 4 rounds of penalty kicks, Croatia scored all but Brazil only got 2 kicks right. Rodrygo missed the first and Marquinhos missed the last to send Brazil home.
Brazil has been eliminated in five consecutive knockout stage games against European countries. They won their last World Cup in 2002.
