The seven times Ballon d’Or winner, Lionel Messi, gave Argentina a life to hold on to when he scored from the left foot in the 35th minute. Julian Alvarez also found the net to make it two for Argentina in the 57th minute of play.

Enzo Fernandez’s own goal was not enough to leverage scores for Australia until the referee whistled to end the game at 90+ 8 minute.
Argentina have booked their place to the quarterfinals of the tournament and will meet the Netherlands on December 9, 2022 at 19:00GMT.
