In a significant boost for international travel to Ghana, the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has announced the commencement of direct flights between London and Kumasi. This new service, operated in collaboration with Ethiopian Airlines, will take off on December 3, 2024.

The direct flights will link London Gatwick Airport to the newly renamed Kumasi Prempeh I International Airport (PIA), enhancing connectivity and opening up Kumasi as a global destination. The service is expected to facilitate travel for business, tourism, and personal purposes while also providing a seamless experience for the Ghanaian diaspora.

Following the inaugural flight, a second service has been scheduled for December 15, 2024, to cater to increased demand during the Christmas season. GACL has indicated that subsequent flight schedules will be announced in the coming weeks, signaling potential for regular direct services in the near future.

This development marks a major milestone for Kumasi Prempeh I International Airport, which recently underwent extensive upgrades to accommodate international flights. The initiative reflects Ghana’s commitment to strengthening its aviation infrastructure and boosting regional development.
