Seven people have been confirmed dead after a late-night accident at the “Atta Ne Atta” area in Nkawkaw, located along the Nkawkaw–Atibie road in the Kwahu West Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The incident occurred at about 10:20 p.m. on Monday, April 27. It involved a Hyundai Grace minibus, with registration number GR 5660-18, which was traveling from Kotoso Market toward Nkawkaw.
According to preliminary findings by the Ghana National Fire Service, the driver is believed to have lost control of the vehicle due to brake failure. The minibus subsequently veered off the road and plunged into a nearby valley.
Emergency responders, including residents, fire officers, and police personnel, arrived quickly at the scene and worked together to rescue victims trapped in the wreckage.
Those who sustained injuries were transported to the Holy Family Hospital in Nkawkaw for medical treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the mortuary.
Deputy Regional Public Relations Officer DOIII Aaron Adu Ohemeng confirmed that the seven fatalities comprised six females and one male.
