By Emmanuel Asare via SIXSCRIBES — Belgium and Real Madrid star, Eden Hazard, has announced his retirement from international football following a disappointing performance in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Qatar.
“A page turns today… Thank you for your love. Thank you for your unending support. Thanks for all the happiness shared since 2008. Decided to end my international career. The succession is ready. I will miss you guys…” — Hazard said in a statement on his retirement to the people of Belgium.
The former Chelsea FC skimmer made his first international appearance in 2008. Out of 126 caps, he has a total number of 33 goals which makes him Belgium’s second highest goal scorer of all times, behind Romelu Lukaku who has a total number of 57 goals.
Hazard helped Belgium to reach the semi finals of the world cup in Russia 2018 where they were beaten by France and finished third position by beating England in the 3rd and 4th place match.
Belgium finished third in Group F in the on going FIFA World Cup in Qatar. They won against Canada in their opening game before losing to Morocco and then drawing with Croatia.
Belgium swept away 4 points out of 9 which resulted in their exit from the tournament. Earlier, Belgium’s Coach had resigned due to his failure to further Belgium in the world cup.
