The Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled (GSPD) has issued a stern warning to musician Shatta Wale following his derogatory remarks towards colleague artist Stonebwoy regarding his disability.
Shatta Wale unleashed a barrage of insults towards Stonebwoy, speculating that his absence was a deliberate snub aimed at him. In the midst of his verbal assault, Shatta Wale resorted to mocking Stonebwoy’s disability, sparking widespread condemnation across social media platforms.
Despite facing backlash, Shatta Wale has shown little remorse for his actions, further fueling outrage among critics.
Responding to the incident, the GSPD denounced Shatta Wale’s behavior as irresponsible and potentially damaging to the mental well-being of the physically disabled community. In a press statement, the society condemned Shatta Wale’s remarks, highlighting the offensive nature of his comments and the harm they inflict on individuals with disabilities.
The GSPD emphasized that disability does not equate to being cursed or punished by a higher power, rebuking Shatta Wale’s insinuations. Furthermore, they called upon Shatta Wale to issue a public apology and take steps to remove the offensive content from social media platforms.
Drawing attention to the legal ramifications of such actions, the GSPD reminded the public that mocking or making derogatory comments about a person’s disability is a punishable offense under Disability Act 715.
The GSPD underscored that a significant portion of Shatta Wale’s fanbase comprises individuals with disabilities, urging him to consider the impact of his words on his own supporters.
The society concluded by urging Shatta Wale to reflect on his actions and demonstrate accountability by offering a sincere apology to Stonebwoy and the entire physically disabled community.
