Ghana’s President Nominates 72 for District Chief Executive Positions
President John Dramani Mahama has nominated 72 individuals for the role of District Chief Executive (DCE). The nominations were officially announced in a statement released on March 26 by Ahmed Ibrahim, the Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs.
The nominations are in line with the stipulations of Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, as well as Article 20(1) of the Local Government Act, 2016 (Act 936). These constitutional and legal frameworks mandate the President to appoint DCEs to ensure effective administration and development within the country’s various districts.
According to the statement, the nominated individuals are expected to undergo vetting and confirmation by their respective District Assemblies. This process aims to validate the suitability of the candidates before they officially assume their roles as DCEs.
The selection of these nominees is a critical step in enhancing local governance and ensuring that the needs of the citizens at the district level are addressed. The government has expressed confidence that the nominees possess the necessary skills and experience to lead their respective districts effectively.
Stakeholders across the country are keenly awaiting the outcomes of the confirmation process, hoping that the selected DCEs will contribute meaningfully to the development of their districts and the country at large.
