Keli Gadzekpo has tendered his resignation as the board chairman of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), effective April 9, 2024. The announcement came through a letter addressed to President Akufo-Addo on Tuesday, March 26, where Gadzekpo cited personal reasons for his decision to step down from his position.
Having served the country in this significant role for the past seven years, Gadzekpo expressed gratitude to the President for the opportunity to contribute to the energy sector. He also extended his best wishes to ECG and the government, expressing hope for continued success in providing stable electricity for the nation.
Gadzekpo’s departure comes at a critical time for ECG, as the company has faced mounting criticism from the Ghanaian public over uninformed power cuts and inconsistent electricity supply. Many citizens have attributed these challenges to the return of “Dumsor,” a term used to describe the erratic power outages that plagued the country in the past.
Despite the backlash, both ECG and the energy ministry have denied the need for a power cut timetable, insisting that the situation is under control. However, public frustration persists, highlighting the urgency of addressing the underlying issues within the energy sector.
