Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has taken legal action against two National Security operatives for allegedly raiding his home without permission. He claims the incident, which happened on February 11, 2025, violated his privacy and caused distress to his household staff.
Mr. Ofori-Atta filed the lawsuit at the Accra High Court on Monday, March 10. He named two senior police officers, DSP Bismark Boakye Ansah and Chief Inspector Mensah, as the defendants.
In his complaint, he stated that the operatives did not present a warrant or explain their reasons for the search. Instead, they allegedly warned his staff not to use their mobile phones during the raid. He also said the incident left his domestic workers in shock and caused him personal distress.
Furthermore, Mr. Ofori-Atta noted that neither the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), the Chief of Defence Staff, nor the Inspector General of Police has confirmed whether the operatives were acting under official orders.
He is asking the court to rule that the search was illegal and a violation of his rights. He is also seeking financial compensation for trespass and emotional distress, along with a court order preventing similar actions against him in the future.
This lawsuit could raise important questions about the limits of security operations and the rights of private citizens, particularly former government officials.
