Lampard Hails Chelsea, Believes A Comeback In Second Leg Against Madrid In Champions League
Chelsea supporters are being asked by American co-owner to show faith while players are being asked by manager, Frank Lampard to believe. There is little on show to back up either statement. It is a bleak reality for Chelsea and they need a miracle to save the season.
“I’m proud of the 10 men,” Frank Lampard said in an attempt to try to grasp at positives after Chelsea’s 2-0 loss against Real Madrid. “I don’t think they carved us open at 10 men. That was due to spirit,” he added.
That could be a way of recounting on the 2012 Chelsea squad that won the Champions League, Lampard believes that a miracle could possibly happen at Stamford Bridge to progress Chelsea to the next stage of the competition.
“I’ve just said to the players, ‘Special things can happen at Stamford Bridge’. They are a very good team, but we have to believe.” — Lampard.
Chelsea lost to holders Real Madrid at the Bernabeu. Karim Benzema scored his 90th goal in the competition to give Real Madrid the lead in the first half.
Chelsea proved to be tough in the second half despite being down by a man but Real Madrid scored a decisive second goal when Marco Asensio finished well in the 74th minute.
