Retiring Black Stars Jersey Number 7 Is Needless – Charles Taylor Tells GFA.
Build A Monument For Him In One Of The Stadia Instead – Charles Taylor Says As GFA Plans To Retire Black Stars Jersey Number 7 To Honour Christian Atsu.
Former Ghana international who is one of the few players to get the chance to play for Ghana top clubs; Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Charles Kweku Bismark Taylor Asampong has shared his opinion on the yet-to-decide plans by the GFA to retire Black Stars Jersey number 7 in tribute to the late Christian Atsu.
This came to light when Linford Boadu, the chairman of the Eastern Regional Football Association (RFA), made a revelation that the Ghana Football Association has an intention to consider retiring Black Stars’ jersey number 7 to honour the contributions of Christian Atsu even as he has died.
According to Charles Taylor, there are other departed football legends who have made tremendous contributions to their countries but their FAs never made that consideration despite their achievements.
He added that it would not even make sense since for a long time now, Atsu has been sidelined by the FA for representing Black Stars of Ghana.
“Retiring Black Stars Jersey Number 7 in honour of Atsu is needless! When was the last time he was invited to the National team?” He said in an interview with SportsObama on Angel TV.
He added that, it will be prudent to build monument in any of the national stadia in his honour of Atsu rather than retiring a whole jersey number.
We can build a monument in one of our stadia to honour his good deeds” – Charles Taylor on GFA’s plan to retire number 7.
Christian Atsu’s agent confirmed the player was found dead twelve days after being trapped under the rubble following the 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Turkey on February 6, 2023.
