Mystery Surrounds Death of Young Woman Found Drowned in Eastern Region
In a troubling discovery in the Upper Manya Krobo district of the Eastern Region, a young woman was found drowned under mysterious circumstances, sending shockwaves through the local community. The incident unfolded when locals stumbled upon her body floating near the shore of River Afram in the Akotoe community.
Promptly alerted, witnesses rushed to inform community elders, sparking immediate action. The following morning, a group assembled to return to the scene, only to uncover unsettling evidence suggesting foul play. The victim, believed to be an 18-year-old female, was found with a sack loaded with stones tied around her waist, in an apparent attempt by her assailants to conceal her body. However, despite the effort, the weight failed to submerge her, leaving her remains visible.
Authorities were swiftly notified, and an official report was filed with the police. Akor Samuel Odehi, the District Director of the National Disaster Management Organization, confirmed the details to Starr FM, stating, “The report they brought to me was that when they found the body, they realized that the young lady of about 18 years was killed. There was a sack loaded with stones, so they tied the sack with the stone and hooked it around the lady’s waist, thinking the stone would sink the lady so that nobody sees the body, but the body was still floating.”
The body has since been retrieved and transported to the police hospital morgue in Accra for further investigation. The community remains on edge as speculation swirls around the circumstances of the young woman’s demise, particularly in light of recent cases of mysterious killings of women in the Krobo enclave.
Amidst the growing tension, one suspect has been apprehended in connection with the crime. Allegedly, he confessed to the killings but claimed that a chop bar operator hired him to carry out the gruesome act for ritual purposes.
