Ghanaian musician Safo Newman has revealed that he has faced suggestions from some individuals to use illicit substances to enhance his stage presence and confidence. Despite these recommendations, the “Akokoa” hitmaker has firmly rejected the idea, citing his commitment to staying true to himself.
In an interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz FM, Safo Newman shared, “People have actually recommended that I should do some of these things [drugs] so that I will go wild [on stage]. I won’t be doing that. I don’t think I can do that.”
Safo’s calm demeanor during performances has sparked criticism, with many urging him to adopt a more energetic stage persona. However, the artist explained that such critiques stem from a lack of understanding of his introverted nature and the diverse temperaments of performers.
“A lot of people have issues with my introverted nature because they fail to acknowledge differences in people’s temperaments,” he remarked.
After rising to fame with his hit song “Akokoa” earlier this year, Safo Newman has faced significant public scrutiny. In addition to critiques about his performance style, he has also been criticized for his sense of fashion. Acknowledging the feedback, Safo expressed his willingness to grow and improve, noting that he is actively working on addressing these perceived shortcomings.
“I am working to improve on all weaknesses as I continue to produce music that will not only excite people to dance but also feed their minds with thought-provoking content,” he said.
Safo Newman, who is also known for tracks like “Miss Issabela,” “Sorrow Fly,” “March Past,” and “All the Way,” is currently promoting his latest peace-themed song titled “NPP, NDC.”
