Story by Emmanuel Asare: November 25, 2022, SIXSCRIBES — On Tuesday, November 22, 2022, the ongoing FIFA world Cup in Qatar received a shocking scoreline between Argentina and Saudi Arabia. Before the game, Argentina with the 7-times Ballon D’or winner, Lionel Messi, and the likes of Angel Di Maria were favourites. Down to Lionel Messi’s penalty, Saleh Al-Sherhi and Salem Al-Dawsari scored two of the best goals of the game and held on to a historic 2-1 win in favour of the Arabians.
Saudi Arabia’s team upset to Argentina at the FIFA World Cup has reportedly motivated an incredible reward from the Saudi Prince to the players. Each player will receive a lavishing Rolls Royce phantom from Saudi Arabian Prince, Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud.
This is not the first time such gifts have been issued to Saudi players. In their first World Cup appearance in 1994, the Crown Prince gifted the most expensive Rolls Royce Phantom which was priced at almost 1.3 million dollars to Saudi National team players as motivation. In the same tournament, Saeed Al-Owairan who played as an attacking midfielder for Saudi Arabia scored a famous goal against Belgium. Today, his goal is still considered as one of the greatest World Cup goals of all time.
Meanwhile, the Kingdom of Saudi have already enjoyed two days of public holiday in commemoration of Saudi’s win over Argentina. They will face Poland in their second group C match on Saturday, November 26.
