Sports, August 9, SIXSCRIBES – Germany forward, Timo Werner has returned to former football club, RB Leipzig, after an unsteady two-year stay at London’s Chelsea Football Club.
The striker who strives on speed left Germany’s leagues to the English Premier League for a release clause of £47.5million in 2020. Chelsea got attracted to Werner following his superb stint at the Red Bull Arena, by scoring 78 goals in 127 Bundesliga games between 2016 and 2020.
On Tuesday August 8, the 26-year old attacker paid tribute to the supporters of Chelsea via a tweet to confirm his exit as in;
“Today marks the end of my journey with Chelsea FC.”
“At this point I would like to express my appreciation for my team-mates, the coaches and staff and especially for you, the special supporters of Chelsea Football Club.
I felt so much love and support throughout the last two years and I will never forget how you guys stood behind me in good and challenging times.
We lifted trophies like the Champions League together and I will always remember the song you wrote and chanted for me.
I’m already looking forward to hopefully playing at Stamford Bridge again one day!
See you soon.
Timo “
Werner joined Chelsea in 2020 but struggled in West London netting only 10 times in 56 Premier League appearances within the 2-year spell.
He is the second Chelsea striker to return to a previous club following Romelu Lukaku’s exit and season-long loan switch to Inter Milan. Armando Broja is the only recognised first-team striker in Thomas Tuchel’s squad apart from Kai Harvertz who can also play as a forward.
