Head Coach of the Senior Soccer National team of Ghana, Otto Addo and two Black Stars players Jordan Ayew and Tariq Lamptey who play for English Premier League sides Brighton and Crystal Palace respectively, are trending in the news this week.
Although final list is not out, Coach Otto Addo has reportedly snubbed some players who made Ghana’s preliminary 55-man squad for Qatar 2022 World Cup. Several news reports have said he informed affected players like Joseph Paintsil, Felix Afena-Gyan, Jeffrey Schlupp and Majid Ashimeru via phone call.
Jordan Ayew has been with Crystal Palace since 2019 after exiting Swansea City. Having few months to end his contract with Palace, the club have offered him a new two-year extension deal. The 31-year old has always been in the plans of Patrick Vieira after being seen as by the French manager as “a team player”.
A lot of Ghanaians are still in speculations whether the quick English youth player, Tariq Lamptey who plays as a right back/wingback for Brighton, will be picked ahead of Alidu Seidu and Dennis Odoi for the World Cup. Meanwhile, the player has scored his first goal of the season today, November 9, after starting the EFL cup game vs Arsenal. Unusually, he started as a left back in Roberto De Zerbi’s system. He moved swiftly into the box before applying a calm finish in 3–1 win in favour of his side.
