The widow of Dr. John Kumah, the late deputy finance minister and member of Parliament for the Ejisu constituency, has come forward to dispel rumors surrounding her husband’s cause of death. In an exclusive interview with Asaase News, Apostle Lilian Kumah revealed that her husband did not succumb to food poisoning, as widely speculated, but battled a terminal illness for over a year.
Dr. Kumah, a respected figure in Ghanaian politics, had been grappling with a blood-related disease since August 2023, according to his wife. Despite his health challenges, he remained resilient and committed to his duties. Apostle Lilian Kumah emphasized that throughout her husband’s medical journey in Germany and Ghana, poisoning was never mentioned by any of the attending physicians.
Expressing her anguish over the spread of false claims, Apostle Kumah urged the public to refrain from further speculation, emphasizing the pain it inflicts on her family. She specifically called for legal action against individuals, such as Blessed Godsbrain Smart, known for propagating baseless allegations regarding her husband’s death.
Dr. Kumah’s final moments were spent in a desperate attempt to stabilize his condition at the Suhum government hospital, where he passed away on March 7, 2024. Despite efforts to transport him to Accra for further treatment, his deteriorating health proved insurmountable.
As the nation mourns the loss of a dedicated public servant, Apostle Lilian Kumah’s courageous stance serves as a reminder to prioritize truth and sensitivity in the face of tragedy.
