A prominent figure within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Western North Region, Mr. Appiah-Kubi Baidoo, has announced his resignation from the party, citing prolonged maltreatment and neglect.

In a strongly worded letter addressed to the party’s leadership, the former parliamentary candidate and one-time District Chief Executive expressed deep disappointment over what he described as years of mistreatment directed not only at him but also at his immediate family.

“I hope this message finds you well. Kindly accept this letter as formal notice of my resignation from the New Patriotic Party,” he wrote. “This decision has been arrived at following years of maltreatment meted out to me and my immediate family by the party. All efforts, including written appeals to get the attention of the National Executives, have yielded no results.”

Mr. Baidoo, who has represented the party in three successive parliamentary elections in the Sefwi Akontombra Constituency, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve both as a parliamentary candidate and as a District Chief Executive. He, however, lamented the lack of support and recognition, which he believes contributed to his difficult decision.

“I unreservedly apologise to the thousands of supporters and sympathisers who have been with me through thick and thin over the last two decades and who will, in one way or the other, be affected by my resignation,” he added.

While Mr. Baidoo did not state his next political move, his resignation is likely to spark debate within the constituency and beyond, particularly as the NPP prepares for the 2024 general elections.

He concluded his letter by extending well-wishes to the party: “I once again say thank you for the opportunity and wish the New Patriotic Party well in its future endeavours.”
