Prior to the NPP Ashanti Regional Election, Mr. Benjamin Emmanuel Ephson predicted doom for the incumbent Chairman Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi). Mr. Ephson has gone on after the election to accuse Chairman Wontumi for paying undue sums of money to maintain his seat.
Chairman Wontumi had 464 votes where his closest competitor amassed 306 votes.
On Monday May 30, the pollster Mr. Ephson reiterated in an interview on 3FM with Eric Mawuena Egberta, if the order of the election was not influenced, no delegate would have voted for an incompetent person like Mr. Boasiako.
“We think that the distribution of money carried the day. I don’t think that the delegates, without inducements, would have voted for a Chairman under whose watch the NPP’s percentage of votes in the Ashanti moved from 76 per cent in 2016 to 71.6 per cent in 2020. Two, somebody who thinks he has the hundred of thousands, he rented an office for the regional NPP, he defaulted in payment of rent and the party’s properties are thrown out. But for inducement, who would have retained such a national Chairman?” Mr. Ephson.
Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako was very elated for winning the Ashanti Regional Election. He said in delivering his victory speech at the Baba Yara Stadium that NPP will by deeds break the 8-year cycle in the 2024 general elections. He termed the impending 2024 victory as a movement.
“our campaign of breaking the 8 has stared from Baba Yara Stadium, NDC cannot stop us.
“[NDC] can lie, [NDC] can spread fake news but winning the 2024 elections is a movement.”
