EPL: Teams Withdraw Gambling Sponsorship From Front Of Match day Shirts [Details]
The English Premier League has become the first United Kingdom sports league to make football clubs remove inscriptions and other forms of gambling sponsorship from the front of their matchday jerseys.
The agreement was reached after a holistic consultation involving clubs, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. This forms part of the Government’s ongoing review of current gambling legislation.
To aid a smooth transition away from shirt-front gambling sponsorship, the collective agreement is scheduled to be effective at the end of the 2025/26 season.
Despite the fact that it has officially been agreed for clubs to remove gambling sponsors from the front of shirts, it is still possible to be able to secure shirt-sleeve deals and official partnerships as well as promote gambling companies on perimeter advertising.
The decision only affected Premier League clubs and not the EFL which is sponsored by SkyBet.
Eight English Premier League clubs have inscription of betting company advertisements at shirt fronts including Leeds, Newcastle, and Everton, others. Everton only signed its club-record deal with Stake last year.
