The Ghana Police Service has taken action against nine individuals across various regions in the country for spreading false news about the disappearance of their genitals. These claims sparked fear and panic among the public, leading to attacks on innocent citizens. Following thorough investigations, including medical examinations, authorities have determined that all claims were fabricated.
Six individuals were apprehended in Kasoa, Central Region, while two were arrested in Ashaiman, Greater Accra Region, and one in Nkawkaw, Eastern Region, for making these baseless allegations. Five of the accused have already been brought before the court, with three being remanded into police custody and two granted bail. The remaining individuals are currently on police inquiry bail and will soon face legal proceedings.
Expressing concern over the growing trend of such false claims, the Ghana Police Service issued a cautionary statement urging the public to refrain from engaging in criminal conduct that could harm innocent individuals and disrupt public peace. The dissemination of misinformation not only creates unwarranted fear but also risks inciting violence against innocent bystanders.
Authorities are emphasizing the importance of verifying information before spreading it to prevent unnecessary panic and ensure the safety of all citizens. The swift action taken by the police underscores their commitment to maintaining law and order while protecting the public from the adverse effects of false rumors and hoaxes.
