Commuters, public transport users and other concerned people have over days, called for reduction of transport fares to commensurate with current petroleum prices.

In view of this, the Coordinating Council of the Ghana Road Transport and the Ghana Private Road Transport Union have issued a statement to adjust public transport fares to correspond to the current reduction of prices of petroleum products.

With the recent reductions in the price of petroleum products, it became necessary to engage stakeholders to give consideration to a review of the fares in line with the Administrative Instrument.”

The statement continued that, “Consequently, series of negotiation meetings were held with stakeholders to agree on an acceptable level of fare reduction commensurate with the current fuel prices.

Following these negotiations and in consideration of the plight of Drivers, Commuters and the General Public, we have resolved to reduce the existing transport fares by 15.3 percent.

The new fares which will cover shared taxis, intra-city(tro-tro), inter-city (long distance) and haulage will take effect from Monday December 19, 2022 as portion of the statement said.
