The Accra Regional Police Command has announced the arrest of one suspect in connection with the murder of Stephen King Amoah, an Immigration Officer who went missing on 4th July 2025 and was later found dead under gruesome circumstances.
In a statement released on Thursday 10th July, 2025, police revealed that the burnt body of Amoah was discovered in a gutter near GBC Satellite, opposite Comet Estate in Accra, on the morning of Wednesday, 9th July. The body, which was severely burnt, was conveyed to the Police Hospital morgue. Despite the extent of the burns, relatives were able to positively identify him.
Investigations indicate that on the night of 3rd July at around 8:00 p.m., Amoah left his residence at Ashongman Estate after receiving WhatsApp images of large bundles of cash from a man identified as Bright Aweh. Aweh had reportedly arranged to meet the deceased at a nearby spot to settle an outstanding financial matter. Amoah never returned home that night, and his phone was unreachable from that point on.
Following intensive police operations, suspect Bright Aweh was arrested. During interrogation, he admitted to giving the deceased GHS 500,000 in cash, claiming that the money was partly intended for debt payments, while the remainder was to be held for later collection. However, he failed to provide a clear explanation about the sequence of events that followed.
The Accra Regional Police Command, through Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs, strongly condemned the violent act and assured the public that thorough investigations are underway to uncover the full circumstances and bring all involved to justice.
The Command is urging anyone with relevant information to contact the nearest police station or call the emergency numbers 18555 or 192.
