Tragedy struck at a galamsey site in the Western North Region when a young miner lost his life after accidentally falling into a water-filled pit. The incident, which occurred at Sefwi Asawinso ‘A’ in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality, has left the local community in shock and mourning.
According to reports, the young miner was at work when he suddenly lost his balance and slipped into the water. Colleagues quickly noticed his absence and immediately began searching the area, fearing the worst. After several hours of searching, they discovered his lifeless body submerged in the pit.
Local authorities have not yet issued a response to the incident, which highlights ongoing safety concerns surrounding illegal mining, or “galamsey,” operations in the region. Such accidents are not uncommon in unregulated mining sites, where miners often work in hazardous conditions with limited safety measures in place.
As the community grieves, residents are calling for increased safety protocols and oversight to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
