John Kwadwo Alan Kyerematen, an independent presidential aspirant for Ghana’s December 7 elections, has named Elijah Kwame Owusu Danso as his running mate. The announcement was made on Wednesday when Kyerematen officially submitted his nomination forms to the Electoral Commission.
Elijah Kwame Owusu Danso, also known by his stage name E-Nice, is a 40-year-old legal practitioner and former member of the now-defunct hiplife group Echo, known for their hit single “Gologolo” featuring rapper Tinny. Currently, Owusu Danso is a television host on Pan African TV and is married to the daughter of veteran journalist and political commentator Kwesi Pratt Jnr.
Alan Kyerematen, the founder and leader of the Movement for Change, describes himself as a transitional leader, aiming to provide Ghana’s youth with the opportunity to actively participate in governance. His decision to select Kwame Owusu Danso, a relatively young figure, is part of that vision to bring new energy and perspectives into Ghanaian politics.
According to Yaw Buaben Asamoa, Kyerematen’s spokesperson, Owusu Danso’s family background represents the diversity of Ghana. His mother hails from Elmina in the Central Region, while his father is from the Oti Region, further symbolizing the unity and inclusivity Kyerematen seeks to promote in his campaign.
Kyerematen’s bid as an independent candidate follows his departure from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and his latest move signals a fresh chapter in his political journey, with a focus on youth and national transformation.
