His decision to resign was motivated by pressure from the party’s grassroots, to free himself from duty to be able to prepare for the New Patriotic Party’s presidential primaries later in the year.

According to the grassroots, he (Mr. Kyerematen) faces tough battle; against Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP) Kennedy Agyapong and former NPP General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong so the need to resign and focus.

Mr Kyerematen has groomed himself up since showing interest to lead the NPP in 2008. He lost to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in a close contest held at the University of Ghana ahead of the 2008 presidential elections and has since been ready to become NPP’s candidate.
