Ghanaian Activist Cheddar Faces Spokesperson Struggles, Turns to Belgian Representative
Nana Kwame Bediako, also known as Cheddar, has encountered challenges in finding a Ghanaian spokesperson for the New Force Movement, leading him to select Belgian national Ms. Shalimar Abbuisi. Despite reaching out to Ghanaians, none were willing to openly represent the group, possibly due to fear. Cheddar speculates that apprehension stemmed from the perception that he lacked political influence.
In an exclusive interview with TV3 [Jan11], Mr. Bediako explained that the reluctance of Ghanaians to step forward openly led him to select Ms. Shalimar Abbuisi,
“In the beginning of the New Force with the mask and everything, we have been speaking to people, so many people to join us. But, today I want to tell the nation that we tried so many people to be the spokesperson, but they were all scared and didn’t want to use their faces,” he said.
Ms. Abbuisi, repatriated by the Ghana Immigration Service, had been in Ghana for over three years without immigration issues until becoming the New Force spokesperson. Cheddar met her through MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa during a donation to flood victims in Mepe in the Volta Region. The GIS revoked her residence permit based on fraudulent misrepresentation, leading to her removal in December 2023.
Cheddar contests the GIS’s claim, asserting they failed to provide the alleged forged documents of Ms. Abbuisi. The situation highlights the challenges faced by the New Force Movement and raises questions about the legal justifications for Ms. Abbuisi’s repatriation.
