Hundreds of supporters flooded the streets of Cape Coast on Sunday October 29, to partake in the ‘showdown walk’ led by Mr. Kennedy Agyapong, a prominent contender for the presidential candidacy of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The streets were a sea of ‘Ken for 2024’ branded t-shirts and spirited party regalia, as attendees swayed to rhythmic music and echoed slogans in favor of their favored candidate. Placards bearing testament to Mr. Agyapong’s merits for leading Ghana adorned the crowd.
A convoy comprising over 10 pickups and buses added a lively musical backdrop, transforming the streets of Cape Coast into a vibrant celebration. The procession navigated through prolonged traffic, bringing a dynamic energy to the city.
Delegates representing all 22 constituencies, along with well-wishers, party executives, and distinguished figures within the NPP, participated in this monumental event. Current and retired leaders of the party were also in attendance, underscoring the significance of Mr. Agyapong’s bid.
Despite the magnitude of the gathering, security personnel overseeing the walk found themselves in a remarkably relaxed position, as the event unfolded without any notable disruptions. The atmosphere remained peaceful and engaging throughout.
Commencing at the Cape Coast Sport Stadium at 08:00 hours, the walk culminated at the Cape Coast Chapel square at approximately 01:30 hours. Its primary objective was to garner support and secure votes from delegates in the Central Region, a vital constituency in this pivotal political juncture.
The ‘showdown walk’ stands as a testament to the robust political engagement within the NPP and sets a spirited tone for the forthcoming election season.
