Nicole Schubert, a mother, has disclosed that she turned her son, then 17, in when she sensed the teenager was planning to attack Washington State High School.
The woman made this revelation to advise fellow parents to be involved in the affairs of their teenage children since people about that age are capable of planning mischief.
Following recent mass shooting in the USA, mum Nicole Schubert told Good Morning America while she was cleaning her home in 2019, she found her son’s journal revealing a detailed ‘descriptive’ plans of killing spree, starting from home (killing his mum), through to his high school.
Although her son claimed the description was ‘just a story’ and her ‘first instinct’ was to protect the son, she reported the issue to the police knowing that a lot of people will be in danger if the plan is executed.
“If there’s a possibility to save even one person, one child, I think it’s worth it,” Nicole said to explain that the situation was not just about her family but ‘hundreds of people’.
It was disheartening to realize what his child was planing. “That’s my child, I gave birth to him. It hurts a lot, it still hurts”, she added.
Nicole added there are signs to note that some things are not right with the teenager.
“Stay in their business… even if they don’t like it. They’re not gonna like it, but as parents it’s our job to know what our kids are doing. Just be aware, and watch for signs. Kids will normally tell you by their actions when something is wrong.”
“Obviously we can’t control our children’s actions all the time, who can? But there are signs that you know something’s not right… I was in his room [asking] ‘what are you doing, where are you going?’ all the time, and he hated it, but he’s alive, and everyone’s alive”, She added she previously found what she believed to be a homemade pipe bomb in the teenager’s room.
The teenager pleaded guilty, went through a successful rehabilitation and is said to have had no issues with the law anymore. He has since gotten a job and has made plans to go to university.
