In the latest release of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, the West African Examination Council (WAEC) has announced that the results of 4,878 candidates are being withheld. This decision is attributed to the candidates’ failure to return provided learning support materials.
Out of the total 448,674 candidates who participated in the 2023 WASSCE, comprising 212,453 males and 236,221 females across 975 schools, a notable 5.8% increase in entry figures was observed compared to the previous year. However, 3,404 candidates, constituting 0.75% of the total, were marked as absent during the examination.
WAEC emphasizes that candidates affected by the withheld results should promptly contact their respective schools for resolution. The withholding of results due to the failure to return learning support materials underscores the importance of compliance with examination guidelines and regulations.
As educational stakeholders analyze the outcome of the 2023 WASSCE, attention is drawn to the significant entry figure increase, indicating continued interest and participation in this regional examination. The examination board encourages both candidates and schools to adhere to prescribed protocols to ensure a smooth and fair evaluation process.
WAEC remains committed to maintaining the integrity of the examination process and upholding standards in the assessment of students across West Africa. The resolution of the withheld results will likely involve a thorough investigation and adherence to established procedures to ensure fairness and transparency in the final outcome.
